Swap & Save on Stanford’s New Reuse Slack Channel

Stanford staff and faculty now have a new way to share gently used university property. The new Slack channel, #stanford-property-reuse, makes it easy to pass along and claim useful items—like office office supplies, lab items, and furniture. Launched in April, the new channel is already facilitating reuse across campus. Recent successful exchanges include artwork, storage containers, shelving, and even a fume hood!

“We’re so thrilled to see all the activity on this channel,” said Moira Zbella, Director of Responsible Purchasing in Financial Management Services (FMS). FMS led the creation of this channel along with several inter-departmental partners, including the Property Management Office and the Office of Sustainability. 

“By encouraging reuse of property across Stanford’s campus, we reduce costs for the university and create a positive impact on the environment,” continued Zbella.

The channel is designed to make it easier to reallocate Stanford-purchased items that are still in good shape. Less waste, fewer purchases, and more campus connections – it’s a win-win.
